A professional will first take time to visualise how the products needs to be shot. It may requires studio lighting to show good detail with large depth of field. Setting up the studio with backgrounds, lights and props usually takes much longer than actually taking the picture. For example, if the products have a very reflective surface such as chrome, a light tent needs to be rigged up in the studio. This alone requires time, space and knowlage of lighting. It could take a photographer the entire day just to select backgrounds, props, setup the studio and do all the color tests before taking the first picture. Once happy with all the tests, taking the pictures is fairly simple and speedy. So weather you are photographing one item or 10 items, it is usually the setup time that is costing the money.
